 The Devil's Advocate

We met in a hide-a-way bar one day.
He was rather stoic but shyly reserved.
I walked in, turned around and said hey!
Then I slowly took the time to observe
he had his eyes on the beautiful girls.

Hey man why don't you get you one!
They are everywhere wild and free.
He humbly and slowly bowed his head
down confessing he was a Catholic priest.
He said, "I can't always get what I see".

Why don't you bend the rules a bit. There
were even popes who were married in the
past. "No, that lifestyle wouldn't fit, he said,
my sacred vows of celibacy must last.
Besides, a wife would be too much to ask".

I tried to play the devil's advocate. I told him
how different it would be.  If he got a wife
before it was too late, he could have a life
time of misery. I told him that is what
happened to me.

Don't you wish you could start over again...
hanging out and being wild as can be?
He said, "no", in an almost silent refrain,
"but I do like the thought of being free. At
times being a priest gets the better of me".

I said, "great!", let me buy you a drink before
you mosey on back to your church. He said,
"no, I just came here to think. I think my
Father has put me on a perch. I guess you
can call it social research.

He wants to see if I've got what it takes to be
married to Him or a woman instead. I really
don't want to make a mistake by taking one
of these beauties to bed. But, I just can't
perish the thoughts from my head."

Just try her out for one night, I mused...
like a test and tomorrow you'll know. He
stared in my eyes a little confused then
stood up and said, "I've got to go. I should
have been back three hours ago".
