MY POEM
Standing bewitched behind the podium.
I gaze over the sea of faces.
Why have they gathered here.
From all the different places.
Coming from all walks of life.
On common ground they stand.
Knowingly sharing the same interest.
Every Woman, Child and Man.
The day they sought has arrived.
They have anticipated for so long.
They are on a mental high.
Their hearts beating wild and strong.
Some are very hopeful.
While others have said their prayers.
Concealing their excitement.
As it hangs thickly in the air.
The Performers are not on the big screen.
Nor on close circuit T.V.
They are performing live behind the podium.
Just as it should be.
Words tumbling from their mouths.
While the Judges listen intensely.
The Challengers waiting their turn.
Enjoying it all immensely.
Look into their eyes and faces.
For success there is a hunger.
It is happening to all, the middle aged.
Elderly and the younger.
Hoping against hope that they might.
Some how be the chosen one.
Anticipation washes over me and I wonder.
If it might somehow be my poem.
