 Silver-Tongued Snake

Silver-tongued snake

Pretty words fall from your lips like gems

emerald scorpions and sapphire toads

stinging as they hit

the meaning behind them is ugly as the waste of world's end

and I wish I could throw them all back at you

make you bleed on their sharp edges

let them wrest your skin from your body

as you tried to wrest my heart from mine

but my words are swept away

insignificant as sand in a storm

they cannot keep their meaning as they fly from my mouth

but twist into something I never wanted them to be

something you helped me turn into

something bitter and stinging

and soft as the killing snow
