Changing of the Guard

Show a little sympathy and pity now and
then during her odious moods. Keep your
eyes peeled because you'll have to scrutinize
the foods she eats. She'll shoplift candies
and other enticing sweets.

She is an early riser so please don't let her
get near the stove. I'm fearful that someday
she may set fire to her clothes. She thinks
grandpa is still around and will try to fix his
breakfast before he goes...

to work. She will ransack the closet for those
black and blue checkerboard flannel shirts to
iron. If you remember, it's what papa use to
like to wear. On Friday evenings she'll lock
herself in the bathroom and brush her hair.

Her cherished memories are selective and
don't last anymore ... for very long. Her mind
wanders a lot and she loves to sing those old
time religion songs. Just knock hard on the door
a few times and she will move along.

That's because she's hard of hearing. She hides
somewhere inside herself and blocks everyone
out. It's like she's trapped somewhere in the past
if you know what I'm talking about. Yet, it's her
not knowing we love her that I'm fearing...

the most. She's always making the sign of the
cross in the name of the Father, Son and Holy
Ghost. She's the only grandma we have left. The
neighbors are always lending a helping hand. I
thank them for their help.

So...I suppose we'll be leaving now. We'd like to
try and return home at a decent hour. We want to
wish you all the best. Here's our new cell number
and PO address. If you need help with her meds
call Ms Hall next door. She knows what's best.
