Old Flannel Shirts

I looked in the old man's closet
and to one side he had saved
his dead wife's skirts...on the other
there were a half-dozen flannel
shirts that he always wore.

Most were tatered and torn and
there were some which were newly
mended...I recalled he was wearing
one of them when his life abruptly
ended. He was sixty-four.
