Bridges Over Troubled Waters
A Minnesota bridge fell the other day
into the mighty Mississippi River. A
precursor, some say, of what's to come
if we don't fix 'em. Now everyone's
got the bridge fixing fever.
What's the cost in time and money?
You may jest but it's not very funny
when the direction you are traveling
is suddenly down. It would turn your
jocular grin into a frown.
Politicians come forth and promise
that "I" will fix this mess if you give
me your vote. Elections slide by
as do the memories, so as far as it
goes, that's all she wrote.
What the immediate future holds, who
knows? The problems continue to grow
as Congress stews in a pot of bi-partisan
bickering and nothing much gets done
as the clock keeps on ticking.
