Haunted

Your liquid brown eyes
Come back to haunt me
From time to time

The what if's?
The could have's?
And the maybe's?

What if he had stayed?
Could I have played being
A secondhand replacement?
Maybe he would someday
Love me like I did him?

I found myself reaching
Deep inside you for the
Measure of the man I
Hoped you were only to
Find you were nothing
More than a mere boy

Tempered purely by your
Own childish, selfish wants
And need's
