5. BEST SERVED COLD

This track deals with three forms of vengeance: Assassination by the society that I was trying to save, Standing up for a friend against bullies, then being betrayed because I used to bully him, and Meeting my "true love", cheating on her, and getting shot in my sleep. It's a mid-tempo, more soft punk, if you can visualize that.

5: BEST SERVED COLD

Verse 1:

I was once your worst oppressor

Pushing you to get a laugh

It was me trying to impress the friends

I thought I had to have

But when those same friends kicked my ass

You was there to have my back

And we got the shit kicked out of us

And I vowed to pay you back

I was just playing to the part

Of friends being there for each other

When they were attacking what you stood for

I regarded you as a brother

So when they named the time and place

I told you then I'd have your front

But then you turned an about-face

And allowed me to get jumped

They had sticks and they had pipes

You know my fists can't penetrate

They broke bones, they punctured organs

I feel cold and unashamed

Until you saw me in the hospital bed

And stood over my corpse

And whispered in my deafened ear

"That's for being such a jerk"

Bridge:

No matter

How you repent

You'll pay what you owe...

Chorus:

'Cause vengeance is a dish

Best served cold...

Verse 2:

I rose above all of my haters

and became a huge success

I had people that I kept too close

To garner their respect

Riding clouds through oxygenless-skies

Breathing just because

I was rich beyond compare

And yet I wanted to be loved

Wetting hotel sheets

I found the girl I thought I wanted

To share a family

We were cute, holding each other's hands

and frequent lewd displays

Making out in public parks and shit

She went down on me each day

I finally popped her cherry

And I popped the question after

I didn't sign a pre-nup

'Cause she was mine and cash, it didn't matter

And besides the fact I thought

We'd always be with each other

Until one day I slipped on tour

Took a drunk groupie and fucked her

I went home with my conscience full

And explained myself to wifey

She took it quite well, in fact

We went to bed politely

I woke up on an autopsy table

Chest perpendicularly cut

My girl had shot me in my sleep

That's why my head was aching

Bridge:

There's nothing

Worse than

A woman whose heart's been stole...

Chorus x2

Bridge:

You try your best to pave a way

But there's always a roadblock

Whether bullshit from back in the day

Or someone on your cock

There's no escaping fate, my friend

It's coming for your ass

They always get you in the end

And they're approaching fast...

Verse 3:

When they exhumed me from the womb

I was bugged with a device

I always labeled it my conscience

When I thought, it made me think twice

Then I got too old to play their games

And it's then I realized

That I was monitored by the government

Ever since I first learned to cry

I broke away from their makeshift matrix

Became my own best friend

I spread the word to others

Now on the outside looking in

I was considered deadly

So my name they sent for me

For spewing propaganda

To a public scrutiny

They threw bullets, they sent poisoned drinks

But I built immunity

I had almost felt immortal

Because there is no fooling me

Unafraid to give a public sppech

To tear down this capitalist state

I spoke with such indifference

That it made the leaders shake

The devised a whole new set of schemes

But each one I'd defy

It got so much that to the point

I thought I couldn't die

I had armies ready to kill for me

And comrades willing, too

I had public aspirations in my hands

Concealing tools

I was building up a following

Becoming a sovereign man

I had dreams of leading state to peace

And the people were the plan

But some false insecurity

Had led me to the stage

The piercing screams of change had led me

To turn history's page

But a single bullet from the crowd

Penetrated my heart

And I fell slowly to the floor

And saw the people part

Before my eyes had closed that final time

I saw the gunman rise

His name was "Democracy"

And he had kissed my head goodbye

Bridge:

You cannot

Fight a country

With total control...

Chorus into fadeout
