To Make Tough a Tender Heart

He was in my dream last night.
Yesterday, on the day he died,

He wanted to go out and play;
he struggled to walk outside.

He laid there in the sunshine
on a pristine blanket of snow.

I felt he knew, as well as I,
that it was his time to go.

His spirit was happy to see me,
In the dream I had  last night,

Excited to have his tail again,
It wagged in the brilliant light,

I know everything will be okay;
I should not have a tender heart,

I found a stone to place it in,
Before it  falls apart.
