Stepping Back in Time

On a recent and not particularly
eventful evening I wanted to step
back in time...far away back,... and
Egypt came to mind.

I envisioned her grand monuments that
have withstood the test of time...the Great
Pyramids, the Sphinx...the adorning
symbols on golden tombs.

She was once a great nation, no doubt...
and it seems now, looking back, that
she was inevitably doomed. No where to
go except in a stoned-in room.

Not even there was a good and safe
place to hide, with your books of the dead,
the treasure...your mummies... to take along
to the other side.

Egypt!...You have been conquered by
many tribes... and still you flaunt your
ancient mysteries. Consistency is the
legacy of your history.

You will never change your inner core
and release the enigma of your past,
instead...you rely on your monuments
forevermore...which some day, too, ...
will pass.
