Burnt Offerings

Dog gone 'dis mornin' I burnt my roux,

For a seafood gumbo I was suppose to do,

Now I gotta start all over again,

Why can't sometimes things go as planned?

But it's not all my fault, you know,

I happen to be a very old beau,

It was when I took a peek at the telly,

That I noticed my roux getting smelly,

Plus I had to answer the phone,

While cooking here, me, all alone,

She called me and said, " I'm an old flame,

I want to re-ignite your little candle",

I said even at my age, mon cher,

I'm way too much for you to handle,

Your buns are too thick and your legs are too thin,

You've been burning your own candle at both ends,

Now please leave me alone! It's time to be gone!

I gotta gumbo to fix for my friends.
