Undefined Reflection They say a pen and paper
Are powerful tools
To voice opinions
Thoughts
Feelings
Words unspoken
But what if I wanted
To use these tools
To create a verbal portrait
What would it show?
Could I use pain and sadness to create my eyes?
Should I use anger and disappointment to color my heart?
How about faded memories to illustrate my thoughts?
Could I use watermelon and fried chicken to draw my nose?
Or cursewords, complaints and "niggas" for my lips?
Would I use burdens for my back
And crosses that I bear for my arms?
A splash of Brooklyn and Harlem and back again for my feet
But no church altars for my knees;
Not for two years...
I could probably use Vaseline for my hair
And gunshots for my ears
But what would I use for my chest?
Fists?
Winter?
Vengeance?
They say pen and paper
Are powerful tools
To voice opinions
Thoughts
Feelings
Words unspoken
But they aren't good for depicting who I am
At least not good enough
It's one thing to tell you who I am
And another for you to see for yourself
So until you see for yourself
And let your mind process what your eyes take in
I remain
An undefined reflection
I prefer it that way...
