Friendship of the Soul 09/20/1999

Our souls first touched one yesteryear,
emerging from doubts and suspicion's fear.
Disclosing impoverished spirits that hide,
even from our own self-confident pride.

Her needs were obvious, while mine discrete.
I thought myself humble to graciously meet.
Yet even then my soul was drawn to the brink,
by unseen chains of invisible links.

Bonds that would connect but never fetter,
through time and distance, remain together.
it's as if no time passes,
though countless years have turned,
and silences never burned.

I live a life with fast-paced demands,
she a life of slower commands.
None more import than the other,
a delightful revelation to discover.

The same decisions of everyday life,
with different urgency of stresses and strife.
Each still needing the touch of the other's heart,
to reach the core where their own needs start.
