A Million Mile Road

A million mile road,
And a new pair of shoes.
A new journey begins,
And you just get the news.

They're not going to be there,
When you get to the end.
The one person you trusted,
Your only true friend.

You begin to break down,
Tears well in your eyes.
You remember their truths,
And forget all their lies.

You remember they helped you,
When you began to fall.
They helped you back up,
And made you stand tall.

You know this is a race,
That you cannot run alone.
There's nowhere to turn,
Not even go home.

Thinking of this person,
Who was with you through all,
You remember the memory,
Of you both standing tall.

You conquered your Everest,
Together as one.
Remembering your losses,
Your gains and your fun.

Thinking of this,
You take the first steps.
On that million mile road,
Now you challenge the tests.

A million mile road,
And a new pair of shoes.
A new journey begins,
As a new feeling brews.

In keeping their memory,
You take to the road.
And you know in yourself,
They'll always share the load.

They'll always walk with you,
Through bad and through good.
As you search through your memory,
To where this person once stood.

Standing tall,
And never alone,
You realize something,
This road leads you home.

A million mile road,
And a new pair of shoes.
Your journey begins,
It's now time to choose.

Head off alone,
With no one to care?
Or realize this,
I will always be there.

I am your friend,
Your buddy, your mate.
I'll walk this road with you,
Though I may be a little late.

Together we share,
This burden of life.
Together we shall triumph,
Over love and over strife.

A million mile road,
Lays ahead and in wait.
Just remember I'll be with you,
Even though I am late.

So take to the road,
With these thoughts in your head.
I will always be with you,
Whether I'm living or dead.

A million mile road,
With no foreseeable end.
We will travel it together,
My mate and my friend.
