Smoke Screen

[opening 1st ch:]

Afternoon heat
Bares down
Leaving only
Room
To breathe ....deep

What can
Appear
So calm
And serene

Is hidden
Behind
A
Smoke screen

No trail of tears
To follow

No excuses
For hidden lies

Where voices
Sound so hollow

[1st v:]

Winter brings the cold
That adds
To the frozen breath
Of words
No one

No longer
Even desires to hold

Step away
Just a minute
Too long

Drowning in
Out of place words
In
Dragged out songs

You can't get it right
No matter
What you try

It all becomes
Too obvious
Right where you stand

The only one
Is you
Who can
Understand

[2nd ch:]

When
Afternoon heat
Bares down
Leaving only
Room
To breathe....deep

What can
Appear
So calm
And serene

Is hidden
Behind
A
Smoke screen

No trail of tears
To follow

No excuses
For hidden lies

Where voices
Sound.... so hollow

[2nd v:]

Each thought
Goes up in smoke

Certain memories
Leave me
To sometimes
Feel as though
I'll choke

You lie
Upon lie

You don't care
About the hurt
You cause

With this knowledge
Not even
A moment
Do you pause....

Desire deep
What suits
Your selfish needs

Fabricated life
Intensified lies

Actions so reckless
Never stopping
And
Seeking forgiveness

You desire to appear
So calm and serene

You so long ago
Created
Now hide....
Behind
Your own
Smoke screen

[close]

With enough to sustain
Two life times
No need
To ever complain

Enough
Is never enough

Never grateful for so much
What to some is a dream
You're still out of touch....

Revel in memories
Clouded by
Your own
Smoke screen
