Words That Lead

Do you walk on by the people in your life,
the ones who don't see your troubles and strife?
They see the smile that's on your outward face,
not letting them see you are lost without a trace.

You've been in this world for so many years,
yet are not even able to find all yesterday's tears.
Wondering why a mother could die and you not cry.
A father is gone but where were his children
when he was ready to die?

You walk among so many people of God's redeeming grace,
drinking in all the faith they have sent to you with haste.
You look for those to which you want to send a smile,
going by one that is right there in the middle of the isle.

You catch it a little too late, returning to ask her to wait.
You talk of the new friendship you want to build straight,
walking back into life's struggling and sickened land,
into a world where people can no longer shake hands.

Then those of like faith are not allowed to come together,
the alarming reasons having nothing to do with bad weather.
They must stay in the world and pray in its deadly weakened state.
They must struggle to open all peoples closed and grieving gates.

They have to stay in houses they have barely called home,
with those they live among but have seriously never really known.
They run out into the darkening fray, forgetting to stop and pray.
Wanting no more limits to the walk that was once so free, but not today.

Now the sickness returns as before, roaring in rage at many more.
The cure is right around the corner the experts words say for sure.
Experts we listen to with all the answers to all the world's needs.
Only confusion is given in all its forms but not read in the words that lead.

Psalm 61:1-2  Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.
From the ends of the earth, I call to You,
                          I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
