Unwilling Hostages 1996

What is the power one holds
to render another's helplessness
keeping them bound and tied
with silent protest that still resides.

The helpless ones know
their voices should be heard
but the years have enforced
the silence that now endures.

Past attempts at ineffective solutions
have reinforced the roles
of dominance and mounting power
that drags unwilling hostages behind.

But the conquered hostages have been
held for an endless number of years
they may never find their way out
past all their solemn tears.

Psalm 126:5  Those who sow in tears
will reap with cries of joy.
