beached

                 he lay,beached
on the edge of an ocean
and the tide was coming in fast
                 sink or swim?
                 or just drift away
                 as was his way?
                 perhaps,if he stayed still
                 long enough,
                 an island would float along
a calm place of palm trees
                 on a long silver shore
                 and
washed up,a few kegs of rum
                 then he could get drunk
                 all
                    over
                        again!
                 only quietly and secretly
                 on an island
                 where was that tide,anyway?
                 he would discuss it tomorrow
                 with his conscience,
                 soberly
and what happened to that bottle
                 by the way?
probably on it's head in the sand,
                 BEACHED........dave hobbs
