 Loss of innocence

Spiraling down the dark crevasses of my mind,
Past the crumbs of old relationships,
Past the scars healed by time.
Somewhere deep within me I know I can find.

the part of me I'm searching for that long ago had died.
It was there several years ago before I learned to cry.

I know it was there, before I got scared,
I remember seeing it , but then I didn't care;

I didn't think I'd need it so late in life.
Now I have to find it I know it was right.

It's the innocence we loose, as we grow old.
We think it makes us wiser, stronger even bold.

We callus our hearts and say we're mature.
We learn to believe we're suppose to endure.

We learn prejudice we learn not to trust
And all the while we're killing a part of us.
